Privacy & Cookies Policy
Effective date: September 2026
You tell us things here that you may not have told anyone. This page explains what we do with them, who else sees them, and how to make us delete them.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Focus Scale Ltd, company number 16273165, 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].
2. What we collect
- Your answers. The choices you make in the questions, the questions you write in your own words, and anything you add in “anything else I should know”.
- Your identity and contact details. First name, email address, and where relevant your date of birth.
- Your order. What you bought, when, for how much, and the reading we wrote for you.
- Payment data. Handled by Stripe and PayPal. We receive a confirmation and the last digits of the card — never the full card number.
- Messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
- Technical data. IP address, approximate country, browser and device type, pages seen, and the identifiers described in section 8.
3. Sensitive answers
What you tell us may touch on your health, your grief, your relationships, your beliefs or your money. Under data protection law, some of that is special category data, and it needs your explicit consent.
By sending us your answers and asking for a reading, you give that explicit consent, for the single purpose of writing and delivering your reading and answering you afterwards. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to us — that stops any future use and, if you ask, deletes what we hold. It does not affect what was lawfully done beforehand.
We do not use your answers for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not share them with anyone who is not listed in section 5.
4. Why we use it, and on what legal basis
- To write and deliver your reading, and to answer you. Performance of our contract with you — plus your explicit consent for the sensitive parts.
- To take payment and prevent fraud. Performance of the contract, and our legitimate interest in not being defrauded.
- To email you about an order you started and did not finish (up to four reminders over three days, each with a one-click unsubscribe). Consent, given when you leave us your email.
- To send at most one email a week afterwards. Consent, withdrawable in one click in every email.
- To measure and improve our advertising. Consent, through the identifiers in section 8. We share measurement events — never the content of your answers.
- To keep our accounts. A legal obligation.
5. Who else sees it
Only the providers we need in order to run the service, each bound to use the data solely on our instructions:
- Stripe and PayPal — payment processing.
- Our hosting and platform providers — servers located in the European Union, which store your order, your answers and your reading.
- Cloudflare — content delivery, security and bot protection.
- Our email delivery provider — sending your reading and our emails.
- Meta (Facebook) — advertising measurement only, through the identifiers in section 8. Meta receives the fact that a purchase happened and a hashed identifier; it never receives your answers or your reading.
We never sell your personal data, and we do not use your answers to train artificial intelligence models for anyone else.
6. Where your data goes
Your data is stored in the European Union. Some of the providers above are established in the United States; where data reaches them, the transfer relies on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK addendum where applicable), or on an adequacy decision.
7. How long we keep it
- Your answers and your reading — kept while your portal access is live, so you can read it again, and in any case no longer than three (3) years after your last contact with us. Deleted sooner if you ask.
- Your email address — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Order and payment records — six (6) years, as UK accounting law requires.
- Support messages — three (3) years.
8. Cookies and identifiers
We use a small number of them:
- lp_lang — remembers the language you are reading in. Functional, 30 days.
- _fbp and _fbc — Meta advertising identifiers, set when you arrive from one of our ads, used to measure whether that ad led to a purchase. Up to 90 days. The same events are also sent from our server to Meta (the Conversions API), so that measurement survives ad blockers; the content of your answers is never part of them.
- Cloudflare security cookies — protect the site from attacks and fraud.
- Stripe and PayPal cookies — set on the payment step, for fraud prevention.
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Meta advertising measurement in your Facebook ad preferences. Blocking them does not stop you from ordering or receiving a reading.
9. Your rights
You can ask us, at any time, to:
- show you what we hold about you, or send you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete everything — your answers, your reading and your email;
- restrict or object to a particular use;
- withdraw a consent you gave;
- receive your data in a portable format.
Write to [email protected]. We reply within thirty (30) days, usually far sooner, and we never charge for it.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or to the data protection authority of the country you live in. We would rather you told us first.
10. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit, access to your answers is limited to the people who need it to write and deliver your reading, and payment data never touches our servers. No system is perfect; if a breach ever affects your data, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
11. Children
This service is for adults aged eighteen (18) or over. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we update this page and change the date at the top. Where the change is significant and we hold your email, we tell you.
